Good SEO will help you cast a wider net when sharing content on Pinterest. This will lead to more followers and shoppers on the platform! See the different areas you can add SEO:
Pinterest profile
There are three places you can do this: your username, your “Business Name”, and your bio. For your username and Business Name, use the same name you covet on your blog or your social channels. In your bio, make sure to be concise, mission-focused, and throw in keywords with a call to action as well.
Your Pinterest Boards
Use strategic keywords to name your boards. Do not name them something cute without dimension (ex: “Yummy!” or “My Style Miles”). The Everygirl’s board names provide excellent examples, with strategic names including “Workwear”, “Summer Essentials” and “Beauty Routine”.
Next, make sure your board descriptions are equally as strategic as their corresponding names, and flow well together!
Lastly, be sure to categorise each of your boards correctly, and always save your content to the most relevant board so Pinterest can best distribute it.
Add keywords to your pin descriptions
Create Rich Pins by sprinkling them with discoverable keywords! To start, do Pinterest keyword research. Here’s how:
- Type in a search query on Pinterest that has to do with the pin you’re about to publish (ex: “vacation outfit” if you plan to post one of your OOO looks)

- After you press enter, look to the set of suggested keywords that appear beneath the search bar to narrow your search even further.
- Add these suggested keywords to your pins description! Think multi-word phrases rather than single words. The key is to get as targeted as possible with long tails.
Text overlays: Especially for pins linking to your blog posts, images with text overlays perform well on Pinterest. Use strong keywords on your text overlays, and make sure you’re choosing relevant images for the graphics.
Blog posts: If you’ve enabled Rich Pins, then you’ll want to ensure you’re using keywords in your blog post titles body copy — they will transfer to Pinterest!
Tip: Pinterest doesn’t allow bit.ly links, so you will need to go into your rewardStyle account settings to select rStyle links as your preferred link format. To do this, login to rewardstyle account and go to Basic Information to change the preferred link format to rStyle.
Once you get a cadence down for posting SEO-friendly pins on a consistent basis, don’t forget to use your Pinterest Analytics to keep an eye on what’s performing best and adjust from there!
